In 2A, Spearman first-year coach Starla Whiteley had the unenviable task of taking over a defending state champion team with everyone returning and admitted the week had been filled with pressure. The Lynxettes succeeded, tallying 68 points to easily outdistance runner-up Shallowater with 154.

"Our girls have felt the pressure," Whiteley said. "But they handled it. We defended our title. That was our goal."

The Lynxettes made a statement that they may be better than last year. Spearman's Farrar won the individual title, and teammate Sutten Garnett, who was the defending individual champion, finished eighth.

"We have two lead runners," Whiteley said. "I was really happy with Tylo. She hoped to break 12 minutes, but she was close."

Leanna Espinosa, Sarah Snider and Gately Garnett rounded out the scoring for the Lynxettes.
