The Spearman Lynxettes, the defending Class 2A state champions, chose to run in the large school division and defeated 5A Lubbock Coronado on the tiebreaker system when Lynette Shelby Hannnah, Spearman's sixth runner, finished in 12:56, just ahead of Lubbock Coronado's sixth runner, Brooke Linstrom (12:58), to secure second place.

"This was great for us," Spearman coach Starla Whitely said. "And we did it on the tie-breaker."
